ALEX MORGAN BIO

Morgan was born July 2, 1989 to Pamela Morgan and Michael Morgan. She was raised by her parents in Diamond Bar, Los Angeles. Morgan was multisport in her early years, but first discovered soccer at the age of 14. After graduating from high school, Morgan joined Cypress Elite's team. They were the winners of the Coast Soccer League Under-16 championship and finished third place in their under-19 bracket. Morgan continued her training at Diamond Bar High School, where she developed her soccer abilities. The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) has selected Morgan as an All-American Athlete. She was also a member of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) regional and state divisions. Morgan continued her soccer career at UC Berkeley where she was the California Golden Bears' leading scoring player from the start of her first season. She led the team to the NCAA Tournament in four years, and the second round twice. Morgan became one of four finalist candidates for the Honda Sports Award and the first Berkeley student to rank among the top Hermann Trophy finalists. When she graduated early in 2010, Morgan was ranked third in all-time scoring goals and points for Berkeley. Morgan was a soccer player at both the collegiate and national levels throughout her studies. In her first year with the Berkeley team, Morgan experienced an ACL injury that kept her from playing with the U.S. under-20 women's soccer team until April 2008. She scored her debut international goal in Mexico during the CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship. Morgan played in the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup. Her team won a gold medal and she made her debut international goal at the CONCACAF Women's United 20 Championship in Mexico. One of these was a win goal against Italy, which resulted in the U.S. a place in the 2011 World Cup. Morgan was the youngest player of the team, and he led the team to victory against France. Even though the U.S. ultimately lost to Japan, Morgan became the first player to score a goal and an assist in a final World Cup game.
